Since Genshin Impact became a phenomenon on consoles (along with mobile and PC), PlayStation has been constantly attracting gacha-based action RPGs. And the next gacha game to land on PS5 is none other than Neverness to Everness – a long name, I know, but you can simply think of it as “GTA anime”.
Neverness to Everness is the latest free-to-play title from Tower of Fantasy developer Hotta Studio, a project similar to Genshin Impact, coming to PC, PS5, and mobile. The game was announced for consoles earlier this month with a trailer showcasing a neon-lit city and some characters with extremely impressive abilities.
The free-for-all mechanics, fun over-the-top animations, memorable anime mascots, and some over-the-top action are sure to win at least some players over from Genshin Impact, but the extended gameplay trailer below almost makes it look like a Rockstar game. An urban open world, drivable vehicles, and accessible shops? Yeah, that certainly sounds like a “Genshin goes GTA” scenario. It’s no wonder PlayStation has two of the world’s biggest games combined into one.
PlayStation has been hunting similar prey for a long time. In the last year alone, the platform has gotten Project Mugen, another open-world, urban gacha game where you swing through buildings like you’re trapped in the Spider-Verse; Arknights: Endfield, a more “tactical” take on the archetypal gacha genre, and Wuthering Waves, another contender that had a bumpy PC launch.
After the explosive success of Genshin Impact, it’s no surprise to see so many newcomers entering the gacha scene, four years after the subgenre’s giant was released. If you’re looking for another game, Neverness to Everness doesn’t have a release date yet, but pre-registration is currently open (the site has a pretty lo-fi vibe, which is a plus).
